Expecting the Unexpected Fabric Studios Cloth Paper Scissors
Currently, I am enjoying a successful career as a textiles and fashion designer and was recently included in the top 20 Australia designers who are creating contemporary lifestyle fabrics
for the patchwork, clothing, craft, and interiors markets.
Following the principles a photographer’s gray scale, I developed a grade-colour textiles system for Australia quilters. I found quilters tend to collect colours instinctively and emotionally. I saw the need for a more complete range of colours to be made available. Fabric shops tend to supply mostly mid-range shades. I believe it’s often the colours you don’t like work more effectively. Establishing this graded-colour system as a foundation led me to hand printing the textiles, but with a photographic perspective. Frame, subject, background, and story are the keys to my design.
